Last month, NBC News reported that a New York City woman was facing felony charges after applying for and receiving 10 marriage licenses in New York. She received them all without divorcing her husbands, the criminal complaint alleges.
L. Barrientos, 39 years-old, has been charged with offering a false instrument after she allegedly married 10 different men between 1999 and 2010. The complaint alleges that Barrientos never filed for divorce.
According to the complaint, each time that Barrientos would file for a marriage license, she would do it in a different town, however, most of them were obtained in Westchester County and on Long Island.
In 1999, Barrientos' first marriage was filed in Eastchester; a couple of years later, she appeared to have a very active social life. Between 2001 and 2002, over a 10-month period she applied for and received eight marriage certificates, according to the complaint.
The applications for marriage licenses came to a halt for eight years, and on March 4, 2010, she married a tenth man in the Bronx. The complaint alleges that Barrientos said that the 2010 marriage was her first and only marriage, when it was actually her tenth trip down the aisle.
According to state records, the attractive blond was married to nine men between 1992 and 2001, with all nine marriages failing to be dissolved legally; some of her marriages were within days of each other.
On Nov. 6, 2014, Barrientos was arraigned, and she was expected to appear before a judge on April 10, 2015 for felony fraud charges.
